Policy makers, businesses, NGOs and civil society are all struggling with thinking about the future under climate change. The future doesn’t exist yet, but ideas about the future do, and these ideas have real impacts on ideas and plans that are being made in the present.
So whose ideas on the future determine the actions being taken in present? Whose ideas matter? Who’s involved? Who’s excluded? Are conversations about climate futures happening at the right time vis-a-vis policy and decision making, and what kinds of methods and scientific approaches are being used to think about what the future may bring?
The RE-IMAGINE project tackles these questions by investigating ways that future scenarios can lead to appropriate and effective modes of anticipatory climate governance and can serve as useful for decision making tools in developing countries.
